A COMMUNITY MUSIC FESTIVAL
Northern Current is a free, daylong music festival that’s family friendly and community centered. It will be held in scenic Riverside Park in the village of Saranac Lake, located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York. This year’s inaugural festival is set for Sept. 1, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
The festival takes the reins from Hobofest, a beloved community festival held every year on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend for a decade. Organizers decided that after 10 successful years, it was time to hang up their hat, but they wanted the festival to live on in some form, so they recruited some new troublemakers to take over. The new team has been hard at work since last fall creating a new brand and putting together a new festival that’s still free, family friendly and brings the community together to celebrate the end of the summer, but branches out from the roots, bluegrass and Americana focus of its predecessor.
In addition to a free day full of music, Northern Current will feature an activity area for kids, food and craft vendors, and other activities.
